Having a specialist with the right experience to install and commission your acoustic sand detector (ASD) is crucial to ensure you obtain accurate readings, optimal performance, and peace of mind regarding safety and reliability. This importance was emphasized during a recent offshore site visit when our engineer discovered a sensor had been installed on a straight section of a flowline by the previous vendor. As a result, the sensor was not picking up any sand readings therefore giving false readings. This scenario could have resulted in erosion being missed leading to damages to valves and other surface equipment and worst of all, an LOPC.
