Regular calibration of the sand monitoring system can boost the production flow rate while lowering the integrity risk caused by sand erosion.

Along with the standard calibration procedure, SMS also offers services for Sand Injection Calibration for acoustic sand detectors which involve injecting gel containing a set concentration of sand suspended within into the system to calibrate it. By converting the raw data into a quantitative value, this technique enables you to quantify the volume of sand production in your pipeline and, at the same time, improves the accuracy of the data used in the integrity evaluation process.

The injection rate can go up to 70litres per hour with multiple injection rates option. Our highly qualified personnel will ensure your systems are tuned and optimised to function at the highest design specification quickly and accurately.

SMS provides both in-house and field analysis of oil, gas or sand in water content. As needs could differ across industries, our Real Time Particle Size & Liquid Analyser can simultaneously detect and measure the concentration of solids, oil and gas in water, making this common process simpler for well test engineers while increasing safety to personnel onshore and offshore.

Utilizing our inflow particle size analyser, images of the particles will be captured and sent to software for analysis, where the suspended particulate (sand, water, oil, gas bubbles etc.) is measured under several parameters to provide particle size, shape and concentration data of Total Suspended Particles (TSS).

Our procedure is safe, quickly repeatable, low emission and practical for Technologically Enhanced Naturally Occuring Radioactive Material (TENORM) concentrated environment.

System Overview

The Real Time Particle Size & Liquid Analyser system does not involve manual handling of samples, and this allows clients to obtain live sand rate and particle size distribution (PSD) data of online processes that may constitute health hazards such as presence of mercury, TENORM, H2S, abnormally high levels of CO2, etc.

Vision based particle size and liquid analysis systems typically suffer from the limitation of requiring single-phase liquids, but SMS’ particle size system is the first of its kind in the industry as it has the capability to separate water and solids from live streams to allow the visual system to analyse and produce results immediately.

Reduced Erosion And Deposition Risk

Our risk evaluation methodology and experience is based around our holistic approach.

We can identify high-risk locations for erosion based on an unexpected increase in sand production. By running theoretical erosion calculations to reduce the high-risk areas to critical areas we make recommendations for better monitoring and/or new design of equipment or erosion resistant materials.

We have also assisted companies that are producing wells conservatively in the fear of sand production. We improved their monitoring system to increase reassurance of results, and then worked through a number of wells and identified where production and flow rates could be increased with low risk of sand.

With ongoing data and expert analysis we can bring about increased certainty around production levels.
